Preliminary Testing


Scoring on the written portion will determine the applicant’s rank on the eligibility list. Upon receiving a passing score on the written test, qualified Veterans will receive 5 additional points. To qualify for the additional 5 points, the applicant must present their DD214 when “checking in” the day of the test. The DD214 must be a copy of the form that indicates the applicant 
received an “Honorable Discharge.”

The P.A.C.T. eligibility list is good for six months from the date of test, except for North Richland Hills which the test is valid for 12 months. Applicants not hired during the selection process may reapply for the next PACT test.

The P.A.C.T. Process

In order to assist you, the below information will let you know how to apply and what to expect during the application process. 

·         Review the P.A.C.T. website, especially the requirements and disqualification pages. This will help you determine if you are eligible to participate in the process.

·         Complete the online P.A.C.T. Pre-Application and submit.

·         Download and complete the Personal History Statement. Completed PHS will be collected upon completion of the written exam and receiving a passing score.  An incomplete application can be cause from removal from the application process.

·         All documents that need to be notarized, need to be notarized prior to arrival to the test site.

·         Prepare for the  test.

·         The testing process is conducted in one day.

 

·         During check in for the test the applicants will need to:

              a.     Present a valid driver’s license.

              b.    Turn in completed notarized Physical Assessment Waiver.

        c.  Present valid DD214 (long form)  indicating “Honorable Discharge” for military points

 

·         The written exam

               a  The applicants will be advised of the instructions concerning the exam.
               b. The written exam will be administered and completed in 2.5 hours.
               c.  Upon completion of the written exam, the applicant will be notified of their score
               d.  Upon successful completion of the Written Assessment, applicants will turn in completed PHS.


 Applicants receiving a passing score on the completed test are ranked according to their final score.  Veteran points will be added for qualified military candidates.
 
  

The P.A.C.T. Agencies will schedule Preliminary Interviews as needed to fill vacant positions. Applicants will be notified as   date and time is determined. Preliminary interviews are normally scheduled within 1-4 weeks of the written test and are typically scheduled in 1 hour blocks.

The physical assessment will take place the day of your scheduled preliminary interview. The applicant will be given the opportunity to change into appropriate attire prior to physical assessment. The physical assessment is usually completed within 20 minutes.

Applicants that live outside a 200 mile radius of the test site will have their preliminary interview and physical assessment conducted the day of the written test. 


 
The remainder of the selection process varies according to specific departmental need. This will normally consist of an oral board (1-3 weeks from the completion of preliminary interviews and lasting approximately 1 hour).  A conditional job offer may be made upon successful completion of the background investigation and passing the oral board.
